Places you can’t miss in Puerto Iguazú

January 19, 2019

To speak of Puerto Iguazú is to speak of one of the seven wonders of the world because there is the Iguazú National Park that houses the famous Iguazú Falls .

But the waterfalls are not the only attraction, I recently made a trip to Puerto Iguazu where I stayed a week to tour the city and its tourist attractions and I must confess that I really liked everything he offered me.

Puerto Iguazú is a destination that needs at least a week to be able to enjoy it , visit its points of interest and its most important tourist places.

Iguazu Falls

Bridge to the devil’s throat at Iguazu Falls.

They are located in the Iguazu National Park, the price of admission depends on the place of residence of the person, for Argentines there is a price and for foreigners another , here I leave you the table of prices updated to June 2014:

The park is immense, if you want to walk from the entrance to the viewpoints of the falls you will have to walk more than 2 kilometers , the good thing is that there is a free train that passes every 30 minutes and takes you.

Even so I recommend you to make the journey on foot at least once , on the sure way you will find some loose monkey, there are also coaties all over the park and in some parts of the river there are alligators.

What’s besides cataracts?

Park train in motion, the route is between plants and animals.

The park is immense and there is a restaurant, a kind of park to sit and watch the landscape and also an island called “San Martin” to which you can cross in a boat, there are guided excursions to the island.

The Triple Frontier

Three Borders Landmark Park, below is Argentina, above right is Brazil and above left (those offices) is…

Puerto Iguazu is the last city before changing country, shares border with Paraguay and Brazil, following the main avenue until its end we will reach a park where you can see the river and on the other side the two bordering countries .

In this park is where festivals and events take place, it has a particular charm to know that you are standing in one country and observing two others.

The city

Main avenue in Puerto Iguazu

It is not very big and has a classic style of Argentine tourist cities, a main avenue and in parts of that avenue presents the micro center where they concentrate all commercial premises , restaurants and casino.

A characteristic of Puerto Iguazú (of all the province of Misiones in reality) is the colored earth , at the beginning it will be something flashy but with the passing of the days you are going to hate it as much as I do, it gets stuck in all the clothes, it stains and if it rains the only thing you want is to levitate so as not to step on the colored mud.

Eastern City

Other street in Ciudad del Este, this is one of the most visited shopping malls by tourists who go shopping.

A frequent excursion for those who go to Puerto Iguazú is to cross to the bordering country Paraguay to go shopping to Ciudad del Este, a city where you go only to buy for its low prices due to being located in an area where no taxes are paid.

People with bags of products they bought in Ciudad del Este.

You have to be careful when buying East City for several reasons: insecurity, swindlers and articles truchos . You can’t buy at all stores.

Important: whenever you buy a product in Ciudad del Este do not take your eyes off it, there are vendors in some stores that, while you are paying for the product, they change the product or even give you the empty box.

My advice is to go with a guide that tells you where you can buy and where not, I also recommend you go early because as I told you before, is an entire city with several shopping malls and streets to walk, the tour will last all day.

Eastern City one weekday, prepare to suffer this traffic if you go.

Excursions in Puerto Iguazú

There are other places you should visit such as the Ruins of San Ignacio, a place declared “World Heritage Site” by UNESCO and also the tour comes with the combo and lasts all day where you will also meet: El Dorado, Montecarlo, etc. Here is a list with more excursions:

 • Ruins of San Ignacio
 • Iguazú National Park (discussed above)
 • Wanda Mines
 • Jungle Images Museum
 • Aboriginal Villages
 • Bird House
 • Three Borders Milestone (discussed above)

These are the outstanding excursions to know Puerto Iguazú, I recommend to go to the tourist office when arriving to the city and ask for information about which should be done according to the time of the trip.
